Jessica Crysta Mashburn was born in Pinehurst, North Carolina.
Both of her parents are musicians. Her mother plays guitar & piano, her father is a singer and plays electric & upright bass. Jessica was extremely shy as a child and her mother would try to break her of that by having her sing at family gatherings as early as age 5.
She began to play piano and guitar by ear shortly after and started writing songs as a teenager. In high school, Jessica competed in talent shows all over Greensboro, and was also the President of the Honors Vocal Ensemble her senior year.
Jessica attended UNCG School of Music and went on to receive a fine arts music degree for piano/vocal performance from Sandhills College where she was regularly featured vocalist with the college’s big band. Jessica toured with several top 40 bands as a singer/dancer; performing in popular night clubs & festivals all along the East Coast while in high school/college.
In 2008, she was cast in the Triad Stage production of David Sedaris’ “Santa Land Diaries”. Her “Miss Peppermint” character received rave reviews providing soothing and extremely humorous interludes during the entire show, which sold out for 26 performances.
She was a member of the popular piano duo, 176 & in 2009 she formed a duo with her life partner Evan Olson called "AM rOdeO". They have an album called "Doot" that is available on iTunes with all original music & they play often in the area. Jessica is an accomplished live/studio background vocalist and has backed- up artists such as soul legend Eddie "Knock on Wood" Floyd, Gene, "Duke of Earl" Chandler, Eddie Cornelius, William Bell and Candy Staton to name a few.
Aside from her collaborations, Jessica plays solo throughout the Triad & beyond at local fine dining restaurants, wine bars, country clubs & at many private parties & weddings. Jessica also is what’s she has come to call an “interactive DJ”. Jessica not only knows how to create a fun, festive & inclusive environment for all who are in attendance, she’ll even help get everyone on the dance floor by dancing too! She actively creates costumes, designs her promotions & writes music that has been featured in national commercials, films and television shows.
Her repertoire spans from jazz standards to pop classics from the 50's-90's with some of her original compositions and a few modern selections. She performs in a "cabaret" style, interactive with her audience, musical/humorous/dramatic & reminiscent of entertainment that you would see in New York City.
